Day 19. Birthday

March 10, 2010

Authorial Interjection: So….I’m not sure why her birthday was on Day 19, rather than Day 21.  One possibility is that I kept toggling between aging on and aging off between save files of my story and this challenge (aging off for the Edith Prescott Mystery Series, on for the challenge).  Something must have been messed up.  Anyway, here it is–even if something did go wrong, it certainly wasn’t in my favor–she had fewer days as a young adult than she should have.

Oh well.  On with the challenge!

Prudence was happy to be back in her usual clothes, but she wasn’t fooling herself–nothing else would be back to normal ever again.  She was now the mother of two little boys, and the sense of responsibility was really starting to weigh on her.

It didn’t help that she was falling behind on her chores.  A filthy house just added to her stress–but if it came between making sure her babies were fed, diapered, and comforted and a clean bathroom, then the babies were going to win out.

Prudence was also trying to be very careful to pay just as much attention to Arthur as she had before.  She didn’t want him to feel jealous of Benedict.  She took extra care to cuddle him and play in between teaching him to walk, use the potty, and talk.

Once Arthur and Benedict were both asleep, Prudence breathed a tiny sigh of relief.  Then she realized that…it was her birthday.  She was officially an adult.  Not a young adult, but a full-on boring, responsibility-laden adult.  She frowned as she gazed out of her curtainless-window, wondering where the time went.

Moping won’t help, idiot.  If I’m so worried about time slipping away, then I’d better get to work!

Prudence sat down at her computer and managed to type out a few more chapters just as she received notification that she’d been paid $18 for the last round she’d submitted.

If I just finish this book–everything will be better…. Prudence thought.  She worked until she couldn’t keep her eyes open any longer, and fell asleep chanting that message of hope to herself.

They don’t always start on day 1 of being a YA. Poor Prudence, life seems kind of stressful now.

Rad: Ah! That’s why her age is weird. Thank you so much for clearing that up!

Pru’s life is stressful. I will have to reevaluate my stance on waiting until the last minute for her to marry (though she can’t marry before the first baby becomes a child anyway).

I’m trying to remember Pruie’s traits. Is she family oriented, so she’ll at least get a nice bunch of happiness from training her children? I guess she’s probably a bookworm, and maybe a green thumb? Does a family-oriented bookworm get super moodlets from reading to a toddler? Maybe that could cancel out the stir crazy moodlet.

I feel so bad for Pruie, but Arthur is very fortunate to have her as a mommy.

OK, silly me. I just realized you posted Pruie’s traits in Challenge Status (not About, where I had looked before my first post). They are: clumsy, excitable, bookworm, coward, friendly. So, she gets no bonus moodlets for raising her kiddies. She still might get some moodlet mojo reading to toddlers off the bookworm/friendly combination. I hope things get better for her!

DB: Yeah…I made the challenge even more challenging by not giving her the usual motherly traits….. oops.

I think when Arthur becomes a child, she’ll be able to travel with her brood….it won’t be much longer, so that’s good. But I’ll have to decide whether to have her take on a husband, or space out her pregnancies in such a way that she won’t run into this issue again…. Hmm……

Oooh, time is ticking now! Has Prudence managed to get any life fruit yet? I can’t remember if you said.

Carla: She has no life fruit at this time–she has one plant that might be life fruit, but she was only able to plant it recently. I’m so bad at this, lol.

That’s the attitude, Prudence. Hard work and dedication and don’t get paralysed by your fears! Rachel, are you allowed to purchase perks? A ‘moodlet manager’(60,000 Happiness Points) would definitely help her.

Moondaisy: I can purchase perks (I’d get a bonus if I didn’t, but it isn’t a penalty). I’ve already purchased one perk….when I see it come up in the chapter, I’ll post it on the Challenge Status page. :)
